Kids' DIY Gift Ideas for Dad

Sure, dad may want the biggest, highest quality HDTV on the market. But sometimes the lowest tech gifts are the ones that mean the most. Kids can use a little tech to make some do-it-yourself gifts for dad this Father's Day with little or no help from Mom. Here are a few DIY ideas:

Photo collage -- Print favorite photos of things you've done with dad throughout the years, then have fun cutting and pasting them into a collage he'll love.

Homemade music CD -- My kids make these for our car trips. But it could be fun to burn a CD with some of dad's favorite songs and yours to mix things up.

Make a movie -- Tell dad all the things you appreciate about him in a short video, either with your camcorder or with the video function on your digital camera or phone. If you don't have a digital camcorder, Pure Digital sells one-time digital cameras at drug stores. (I picked one up for my daughter to take on her 8th grade Washington, D.C. trip for $20 at a Rite Aid.)

Photo house card -- This one for younger kids comes from Family Fun. Moms and older kids can help younger ones print out some photos of family members. Draw a house and cut out windows. Place the photos behind the open windows and tape to back of the house. When the photos are in place, glue the house to another piece of cardboard or poster board. To make the house frame stand up, cut out a 3-inch-wide cardboard strip that is half the height of the house. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, line it up with bottom of the frame and glue one side to the back of the frame.

No doubt your kids have come up with lots of low-tech creative gifts. Share your favorites below!

Special art picture is a unique gift! I would highly recommend you visit http://www.photoartomation.com They convert ordinary photos into art and print them on canvas. I sent them my favorite picture of my dad. They made several free preview samples of altered photos for my consideration. All of them were perfect. I chose one of them I liked the most and order a canvas stretched print. That was awesome! My dad was very, very touched and pleased when I gave it to his 60th birthday
