After years of telling us how to decorate the perfect cookie, paint the perfect color on our living room walls and make coasters out of twigs, Martha Stewart is adding social networking to her mega-network.
Eying the success of MySpace, the rehabilitated diva of home decorum will add a networking feature to her marthastewart.com Web site. Women will be invited to share photos, recipes and projects with other women and home design experts on the site, according to this Reuters story. The networking space is expected to launch by mid-2007.
Of course, there will be lots of others by then. There already are some online networks for moms. ClubMom recently introduced TheMomNetwork on its Web site, as I wrote in this post. Readers responded to that post with a few favorite sites of their own, including:
• connectingmoms.com: Moms can build their own pages, blogs and build a network of friends. You can upload and share family photos, write and share movie reviews, join discussion groups about family issues and check out shopping discounts. Writes yeemay8: The site touches all bases from women trying to conceive to mothers who are well seasoned...Connectingmoms is an easy and straightforward site that has allowed me to meet other moms like me (first timers), as well as giving me the opportunity to start interest groups of my own. There really is a sense of community when you join.
• FamilyRoutes.com: An online community for families to share photos and post blogs. One reader says: It's very easy to use and is aimed at working moms with little time to spare." Always a good thing.
• BabyCenter.com: A site for expectant and new parents. It includes a week-by-week baby development tracking feature.
In mid-June, look for NewBaby.com, a site designed for moms of babies to socialize, learn from each other and share experiences.
Does Martha's announcement inspire you to jump into online social networking? For moms who already are logging into social networks, please keep sharing your favorites and let us know how they help you through your busy days.
Join in the discussion. Here you'll see the comments in the order they were posted.

Hi Dory, I have just signed on your site. I like it, it is helpful and interesting. Thanks for that. Martha's Space sounds good to me, I am one of her biggest fans. It will be interesting to be able to comunicate with her and others in the business. I am an avid computer user and am planning to take some courses at the local college this fall. I am a 58 year old grandma who is getting lots out of this fabulous machine. In fact am writing a memory/cookbook about my family and friends. It is amazing how easy it is with a computer instead of a typewriter. Looking forward to your site and all that I will learn from you. Regards, from me, Sandybear
