Talk about being a clueless mom.
When I read about how teens are downloading a high-pitched ring tone off the Internet that they can hear, but most adults over 30 cannot, it was literally news to me. I had no idea that was possible.
Turns out as we age, we lose the ability to hear high-frequency sounds. Ironically, the ring tone is an offshoot of technology created to disperse teenagers hanging out in front of stores while not affecting adult paying customers. It's called the "Mosquito." Now, teens are turning it to their advantage and keeping adults at bay so they can receive and answer text messages when they are not supposed to be using cell phones.
The next thing I thought was, parents who think GPS-enabled phones are going to allow them to keep tabs on their kids' whereabouts, don't bet on it. Kids will figure a way around that, too. Ways we won't see coming.
I downloaded the teenbuzz ring tone. Couldn't hear a thing, which, I have to admit, is making me feel a little old tonight.
Can you hear it?

Maybe. But I had the volume all the way up and still couldn't hear it.
Yes, I can hear it and I'm 37. But my kids can hear it 35 feet away. My husband can't hear it. I always told him that he's deaf and this proved it.
It's as loud as a Fire siren to me! lol
I am 44 and can clearly hear it. It is very high pitched and almost gives me a little headache when I hear it. It reminds me of the hearing tests I used to take when I was young. If I was in a crowded room with noise or the phone was in my pocket I doubt I would hear it. If all the ringtones sound the same, how do the teens know its their phone ringing?
