Who needs to diet?

Between photo-enhancing techniques and digital cameras like these HP models with "slimming features," the incentive to lose weight for real is dwindling. Why bother if we can look good in pictures?

Newer cameras and photo-enhancing technology offer some cool ways to improve reality. But is that a good thing in a country where 65 percent of the adults are overweight or obese?

They say cameras add ten pounds, but HP digital cameras can help reverse that effect. The slimming feature, available on select HP digital camera models, is a subtle effect that can instantly trim off pounds from the subjects in your photos! trumpets HP about the seven models that offer the feature. Among them are the HP Photosmart R967 and the HP Photosmart R927, which Robin wrote about in this lineup of digital cameras.

The slimming feature has the same effect on every subject, but if the subject is a person, the effect is subtle and leaves the person looking like the same person, HP says. And you can see a before and after version before opting for reality or slimmed-down reality.

Adjusting reality is getting easier to do with new cameras on the market, as this Cnet story points out. Photoshop-like editing features are being built into cameras to make changes before the photos ever hit a computer screen and editing software.

Would you use these features if you had them on your digital camera?

I am on my 3rd HP Camera,Each time I've up-graded, and the last one I purchased was a HP Photosmart M627 with the slimming effect. This camera takes AWESOME pictures!!! and I really like the slimming effect, its not drastic or anything. It also offeres alot of other features besides the slimming the are also GREAT. For the price I give this camera an A++++++. I guess I must tell you that the Slimmimg effect was one of the main reasons I purchased this camera, but now that I have that option I really dont use it as much as I thought I would, I dont need it the camera takes great pictures anyway!! I highly recommend this camera.

WOW this is all we need. Our own ego drives us to delude ourselves about how we really look, want to diet and try to look good outwardly. Now we can reinforce the delusion with technology that misrepresents us. It is amazing how many people pretend to themselves and now we we can openly pretend to others. Good Job HP how incredibly unauthentic! I suppose HP would say that this feature was driven by customer needs and user research... let's hope they don't fuel anorexia. Spain banned models under a BMI of 18 because of the social implications - what of it HP! Is there any social conscience here?

Is it any wonder why more and more girls are getting eating disorders? Being yourself is no longer good enough, you have to be less then yourself. Perfection is bought and sold, made in china. As long as we can't see ourselves the way we are as perfect we'll have to keep buying products to make us that way.
