My laptop and I spend a lot of time together these days. So, sometimes, when I want the illusion that I am not tied to my desk, I move around the house with it. Maybe sit on the couch while my kids are doing homework or checking out a baseball game on TV.
I think that's why as I walked through a room full of showcased gear and gadgets this week, I was intrigued by something so low tech, simple, and functional: Belkin's Cush Top. (Pictured)
Unlike Belkin's stylized surge protectors and new SportCommand, an $80 wireless iPod controller ideal for rugged outdoor sports, there is nothing technical about a cushion that comes in three colors (silver, orange, and green). But it makes good sense.
When I sat down and put my computer on it, I could immediately feel my back un-tense and my shoulders un-hunch. My posture and wrist positioning improved, and I was just plain more comfortable.
Belkin says more laptop computers are being used primarily at home. A study it conducted in late 2005 found that 39 percent of laptop users rarely or never take their portable computers out of the home, 43 percent keep their laptops in the family room, while half move around the home with them.
The Cush Top makes using a laptop on what it's named for a little easier on the back and wrists. There's a pocket in the center to store the power adapter and mouse. It will be available in November for between $30 and $40.

eyyy dory just a thought...no offence but try talking about gadgets which can also be seen in third world countries....we dont have products by belkins or maybe its just to rare or its just for the RICH ones thats why i cant even post or comment on this thing... so if i ask you about generic surge protectors can you tell me how good it will work or whats the difference between belkins and other well know manufacturers..
Looks like a great gift item for those impossible-to-buy-for techies or teenagers! Thanks!
This item was mentioned in Popular Mechanics this month to help keep lap tops cool while sitting in your lap which is the problem I am having. The article also explains how it relaxes your back and shoulders while using the lap top.
