Truly, I am not trying to rush the holidays upon us. But my work on Yahoo! Tech has got me thinking about holiday shopping, and I came across this great piece of bargain-shopping advice via Lifehacker. It comes from Getting Finances Done blogger Samuel Peery, a frugal shopper himself, who offers a primer on how to receive alerts from favorite shopping sites on gifts you're hunting for.
How? RSS feeds, the same kind that send headlines from your favorite news sources, can also send alerts from shopping sites. Writes Peery: By combining the magic of RSS feeds...with your favorite shopping sites, you can now have your own virtual shopping servant that will happily and gladly inform you of the exact items you're looking for at the best prices.
For the uninitiated, Peery walks you through the steps to set up RSS feeds from favorite web sites, and he highlights shopping sites, such as Spendfish.com and Baebo, that allow you to set up feeds for specific search terms to help you find a specific product. Sounds like a great way to save time and cut out a lot of fruitless web surfing for the perfect gift at the best price.
Peery's full post is worth a read. Let me know if you already put RSS feeds to work for shopping savings. And if you've got some other time- and money-saving tips to share, please post them below.Join in the discussion. Here you'll see the comments in the order they were posted.
