Any other time, I'd advise you to leave the gadgets at home when heading to the beach; but this time, I want to encourage you to pick up gear made to resist the one element that's been keeping you from capturing some of the best moments of your life. The beach is where all the fun happens, but as we all know electronics and surf don't mix, unless your gadgets are waterproof.
We've seen water resistant headphones, MP3 players, and digital cameras, but this summer, the Sanyo Xacti E1 Camcorder joins the aquatic club. The Xacti has always been a favorite of mine because of its size. It only weighs 8.3 oz, yet still manages to pack a lot of decent features.
Fit for an active lifestyle, this video camera takes six megapixel stills and video even under five feet of water for up top an hour at a time. It records to an SD memory card, so you won't ever need to spend extra money on tapes. Since it shoots TV-quality MPEG-4 videos, you're able to easily upload your movies to an iPod, website, or video sharing site.
Other features include 5x optical zoom, a 2.5 inch LCD color display that flips out and rotates, anti-shake image stabilizer, and is submersible to up to five feet. Available in yellow, white and blue, the SANYO Xacti E1 will be available next month at a $499 price tag. Â
