I'm not feeling the excitement over the Zune media player, but earlier reports say Microsoft has sold almost one million Zune players since its launch eight months ago. The Washington Post says Microsoft expects to hit its sales goal before the end of its fiscal year in June. Their positive outlook may be in part due to the release of three limited edition Zune players due out this Summer, starting with the Pink Zune player released just before Mother's Day.
If pink is not for you, don't fret, Microsoft is launching two more colors this month. BET.com is reporting that hip-hop newcomer MIMS "recently hit the road with his new red Zune," which is the next wave of color in line to hit the streets. The new watermelon-colored Zune media players will be available at Target stores and Amazon.com starting this Sunday, June 10.
Meanwhile, Halo fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the limited edition Halo 3 Zune player that'll be available exclusively at GameStop starting June 15, 2007. The player will come pre-loaded with Halo artwork, music, videos, and a custom episode of Red vs. Blue. While it's nice that Microsoft keeps adding colors to its Zune line, I don't think this is enough to attract music lovers looking for the next "it" media player, especially now that the iPhone launch date has been confirmed for June 29.
