Today at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, Apple announced the new public beta of Safari now available as a free download for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X. Safari 3.0 will be bundled in Leopard Mac OS X 10.5 when it ships in October, but for now you can download a copy from their site.
Much like the successful iTunes and QuickTime, Safari is now a cross-platform application that will run on Windows. Apple's CEO Steve Jobs said the decision to release Safari 3 for Windows was due to their desire to grow their market share. Safari currently draws five percent of the market, while Microsoft rules the web browsing market with a 78 percent share.
Apple claims Safari is the fastest web browser available, beating out Internet Explorer, Opera, and Firefox when it comes to performance. The website says Safari "loads pages up to two times faster than IE7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2." I haven't tested their claims, but several Mac obssessed blogs say they didn't notice a big difference (let me know if you agree).Â
Notable features worth mentioning are draggable tabs that open new windows when you drag them to your desktop, a private browsing feature that won't store your search history, cookies, or other cached data, and SnapBack which takes you back to your original search results instead of having to hit the back button a few times.

I've used Safari on my Macs and had to try the new Windows beta version. I did notice a considerable speed increase over IE 7.0 and a more modest one over Firefox. Safari does offer a refreshingly clean and uncluttered approach to web browsing and this new beta works fairly well with Windows XP. The only problem noted so far was that Safari crashed while leaving a java based website.
FIREFOX is cooler but Safari is cooler ie so that good
The Motorola Q phone is smart and beautiful, kind of like the supermodel Tyra Banks, but that's not ...

Hmm...it doesn't mention how it outperform the speed of Opera browser though. Well, if the user really know what to tweaks, any browser can be on top notch on its own platform. Does Safari 3 will be quite customizeable such as Opera? Or it will mantain the simple and clean of Mozilla? It does raise some common questions though. Well IMO, as long as it has it own stage it will kept interest in people hearts. Its good to see so many IE alernatives out there. And it does mean more works for web dev. :)
