A Handy Online Photography Toolbox

Some like to document their life on film or write about their experiences on a blog, others simply like to take pictures. But once you've downloaded them to your computer, how do you share them online with others? Those in the know head over to Flickr or similar sites to share their photos with friends and family. Personally, I don't know what I would do without that Flickr batch uploader. If I had to upload photos individually, I'd probably give up photography altogether or just leave photos on my computer. Even though Flickr is one of my favorite sites, I can't wait for the next generation of photo sharing tools.

Web 2.0 trendspotter Mashable, who's compiled handy guides like the Ultimate RSS Toolbox and a Blogging Toolbox in the past, has just published a fantastic list of over 90 alternative photography websites for enthusiasts looking for the next best thing or just something different. The extensive list includes sites dedicated to online photo sharing, editing, hosting, printing, mashups, and book creation. We've covered a few of them on Yahoo! Tech, but this list has a lot of other handy sites worth a bookmark.

Although this list is a well organized guide for photography lovers, it's also a great resource for everyone, even for us bloggers and graphic designers looking for free images to use on our site. I'm very familiar with iStockphoto, but I just might try out YotoFoto—who indexes free images available under various copyleft licensing—the next time I need images for my blog. Check it out and if your favorite photo site didn't make it on the list, just add the site's address in the comments section.
