Motorola to Integrate Projectors into Phones

When I came across the DLP Pico projector at CES, it seemed pretty clear that cell phone projectors wouldn't be too far behind. Imagine being able to project a movie, video, or a slide-show from your mobile onto a wall, instead of forcing friends to huddle around your phone's tiny screen.

Now, I'm hearing that a prototype of just such a thing is making its way to CTIA earlier this year. Motorola is working on getting its groove back by partnering with Microvision in order to integrate PicoP display technology into future Motorola products. The companies are currently working together on a handset that will feature a Microvision's WVGA ( 854 x 480 color pixels) wide angle scanner, first seen at the Society of Information Display annual conference in May 2007.

I don't know about you, but I'm happy to hear mobile entertainment is finally going to the next level. Maybe this move will jumpstart a broader adoption of live streaming TV and video calls on mobiles.

    More likley to be used for inapropriate behavour, and what they laughingly call happy slapping. Poor state humanity is in when so much is spent on research into total and utter irelivants.

    this might be kind of a good thing if it were integrated into an iPod video. you could watch movies wherever, without a crowd on your shoulders.

    this is probaly one of the coolist thing for a phone. I heard that you can watch movies on an i phone so if you could but this on a i phone that would get rid of a big projecter and a laptop all together

    Agreed with most. This is a waste of real estate in your cell phone. They could never get a decent lens in there to make for good projection, could they? I mean 480 x 760 digital pictures are one thing, but projecting onto a wall or something? It's going to look like garbage, I would think.
