Sony announced yesterday that their new gaming console, the PlayStation 3 will retail for $499 (20 GB) and $599 (60 GB) and is slated for a November release date, just in time for Christmas. I think this officially make the PS3 the most expensive console compared to the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. So here's a quick glance at new features you can expect from each of these consoles.

Playstation 3: This is by far the most expensive, but also the most sophisticated system of the three. It runs on a Cell processor which makes it twice as fast as the Xbox 360. The system integrates a Blue-Ray high-definition DVD player that will also support current media such as DVD and CD formats, and word has it once Blue-Ray players are released they will cost close to $1,000. In terms of backward-compatibility, it plays original PlayStation and PS2 games. Sony also introduced an improved wireless motion-sensitive controller for the PS3 that interacts with the game, and will support up to seven controllers for multi-player gaming.

Xbox 360: This console was released last November and was the first one with high-definition capabilities. It is priced between $299-$399. To remain competitive with the PS3, the company plans to release a few peripherals that include the Xbox Live Vision Camera, a Racing Wheel controller and a wireless headset that integrates with the Xbox 360 as well as an HD-DVD player--all available for the holidays. The $399 model does have a 20 GB hard-drive and supports a total of four wireless controllers in multi-player gaming.

Nintendo Wii: Details are still fuzzy about this system, but I do know that it will be released at the end of the year. No price has been announced yet, but most speculate it will be under $300 since it has no high-definition graphics unlike the PS3 and Xbox 360. It's also backward compatible, so it will play other Nintendo games. The controller is shaped like a TV remote control, has speakers built-in and also has motion sensing capabilities which means you can wave it like a sword or fire it like a gun. Nintendo will also be releasing a Wii Sports pack that will include games of tennis, baseball and golf. Nintendo games are considered more family friendly, and with a name change like Wii they hope to attract more non-gamers.

Of course, this is just a quick glance at just a few features unveiled so far in the last two days during the E3 conference. So what gaming console are you getting?

i think the nintendo Wii, which is considered the underdog, will come out as a potential winnner. Its cheaper and more importantly its a creative design. Nintendo didnt want to make a faster gameconsole, the wanted to make something totally different. And they have done it. Ps3 will be the technologicly most advanced device of em all, by far. Nothing (should) compute up against the cell processor. But the main thing is can they make it interesting enough for people to buy.... Hey its Sony... thay can sell everything. It will be very expensive, and stacked with technology that not everybody is gonna use anyway. The BlueRay drive is pushing the costs up, and i havent seen any BR movie in the stores..... Xbox360 will be very nicely priced at the end of the year and its already available! But the main thing here is... Where are the Blockbusting games??? there arent that many made until now... lets hope. Conclusion: everybody will choose as they would like, and only time will tell if there is an absolute winner. my personal guess, is that Nintendo Wii will go a long way.

Variety is good but not everyone is willing to spend $600 to play video games. The Xbox 360 and PS3 images and videos I have seen from the E3 expo have been very similar in terms of graphic quality. For someone who wants High Definition Gaming and a 6million member strong online gaming community the Xbox 360 is a better deal at $400 compared to the PS3 for $600 or even the lesser model (that has no HDMI, No memory card reader, and no WiFi, like the $600 model). The Wii on the other hand has a mass audience appeal and though it is really only about 2 times more powerful than Nintendo's Gamecube the controller is the center of the system's appeal. Nintendo does generally have more family friendly and innovative titles that have a broader appeal. I dont know if they can take the top spot away from Sony but at the right price they certainly will make a dent. I have been playing games for a long time and the last system that was leaps and bounds over the competition in terms of tech under the hood was also $600 and it bombed. The added BluRay player function is nice touch and all but again the format is still one of two yet to determined which is the one to latch onto. If the HD-DVD camps wins out over BluRay, then the advantage of the built in bluray player becomes as valuable as a built in laserdisc player. I have alot of friends that also play games and the general consensus afetr we heard the price of the PS3 was, well I am going to go out a get an Xbox 360.

u r forgetting something important, the ps3 controller must be recharged by pluggin it into the ps3,so,that's something to worry about as no one will know, the battery lifetime, and performance over the time, besides, many people don't embrace the blue-ray tech,i believe on the long term, maybe, they r too ahead of time,i guess that's too risky.
