I was wondering how long it would be before Louis Vuitton really jumped into the world of consumer electronics. Every other designer seems to be embracing the popular geek chic trend with signature cell phones, so I'm surprised it's taken the world-renowned accessory maker this long to put its "LV" monogram signature on an actual gadget.
Louis Vuitton has skimmed the surface with monogrammed accessories for laptops, iPhones, and customized phone covers, but rumor has it designer Fred de Garilhe is laboriously working on four unusual designs for special Vuitton USB keys made of white gold, diamonds, and your choice of ostrich or alligator leather. Nothing's official yet (still in concept mode), but I have a feeling these luxury memory sticks will be marketed as personal diaries, since the design somehow includes a lock and key to secure the cap and your data.
In an classy twist, the curvy design also includes an analog clock, so the device doubles as a pocket watch—it's all very old world meets new world. New Launches says the thumbdrives have a 40GB capacity, which is a little far-fetched, but if true, expect the price on this luxury 40GB USB drive to be even more ridiculous than expected.
