Some deals are just too good to pass up during the holiday season, especially when prices on Blu-ray and HD DVD players keep dropping as the format war drags on.

Gizmodo says the Xbox 360 HD DVD player is selling for $130 at places like Amazon and Toys R Us. That's the lowest price I've seen on a HD DVD player this month. You really can't go wrong buying one for that price, especially when it includes the "King Kong" HD-DVD and a mail-in offer that qualifies you for five free HD-DVDs. I've had mine for a year and have been very happy with it.

If you don't have an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3 but want to enjoy high-definition movies on your HDTV, check out the Venturer High-Definition DVD player Ben wrote about a few months ago. The player is still selling for for $189.98 over at Wal-Mart.

If you're still on the fence regarding the transition to high-definition DVD players, this would be an excellent time to make your move.

sweet deal... the heat and the battle continues... 279+130=400=cheap ps3 price... 349+130=479=cheaper than the better ps3 price... not bad + it doubles as a pc hd drive :D... & venturer jumps into the sa player market at a good retail... hopefully retailer subsidised sales would be good like the toshiba player deals.

I like this deal. My son is into Xbox 360 and movies big time. At $130, I'll take a look and maybe finally jump into the HD DVD wars. The Toshiba HD DVD deal funny - at least at my local Wal-Mart. They had a stack of the players, hidden under an HDTV display. Nothing but a shelf sticker to show the price. There was nothing to tell the world that Wal-Mart was selling an HD-DVD player for less than $200. And it gets funnier - there was not one single HD-DVD disk to be found anywhere in the store. They had a whole end-cap display dedicated to Blu-Ray, but not a single HD-DVD movie. To think Wal-Mart is going to influence the HD wars is a stretch.
