Ask and you shall receive. Steve Boyack thought it would be a nice gesture to help high school students who lost their home in the October wildfires, so he wrote an email to Steve Jobs asking for a donation. He never heard back from Steve Jobs, but instead got a call from Michael Foulkes, Apple's senior manager for state and local affairs. Now the generous company wants "to put an iPod in the hands of every high school student in the country who lost a home in the fires."

The first kids to enjoy Apple's generosity were students in the Poway school district who were told by teachers to show up at a pizza party, only to be surprised with an brand-new iPod Nano. Steve Boyak told SignonSanDiego.com that Apple isn't seeking publicity from the donation: "It was strictly from the heart and just wanting to help."

Apple's not the only company stepping up to help fire victims; AT&T began offering free Wi-Fi service throughout Southern California to help those affected by the wildfires too.

An iPod is probably the last thing any kids need after losing all their belongings in a fire, but getting one before Christmas couldn't possible hurt them either.

The Harris fire Teens were very excited, but are still waiting. Once Christmas passed they felt quite left out, maybe the Harris Fire Long Term Recovery Center will still hear from Apple/Steve Boyak? Perhaps it was just a Union Tribune mistake that all children who lost thier homes would recieve one? Don't take this comment adversly as the fire victims have been very happy with the donations they have recieved. All school districts know which children lost homes.
