Solar Girl Power

There are many portable devices that will charge your gadgets with solar power. If you thought solar cells were destined to stay mounted on rooftops, think again. A student attending Iowa State University designed a functional, yet fashionable "power purse" for a competition. It comes outfitted with thin solar panels that convert photons into electricity, then stores it in a battery for extra energy at night. The solar handbag powers up small gadgets using a simple USB port. Unfortunately for us, this handbag is still in the lab, but  will be available to consumers soon.

For a less feminine look, the Voltaic solar backpacks also come embedded with lightweight solar panels that generate up to four watts of power. This power-pack is currently in the market, and will charge most of your small electronic devices. Definitely my top choice.
