Last year, HP and MTV held the Global Design Competition and opened it to pretty much every artist around the world. The designs were submitted, the votes were cast, and the winning design was chosen. The winner of the contest was "Asian Odyssey" by 20-year Joao Oliveira of Porto, Portugal. I took a snapshot of the young designer holding the artsy laptop during a CES 2008 press event so I can tell you this laptop definitely turned a few heads.

Yesterday, it came to my attention that the hip notebook designed "by young people, for young people" is now available to everyone through the HP site. This is the first notebook in the HP Pavilion dv2800t Artist Edition Series, and it features Intel Centrino Duo processor, Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS graphics card, a 14.1" high-definition BrightView widescreen display, Windows Vista, and a matching messenger bag that features the winning design. The site says the notebook starts at $1,000 for the base configuration.

I think this will be a popular choice among students during the back-to-school season. The price is not bad for a student, the graphics are beautiful, and if HP adds more designs to the Artist Series, the company will surely have a hit on their hands.

I really like the design. Seeing as how I recently purchased an HP notebook I probably won't be getting one anytime soon. I do agree with you Gina, I went to HP's site and looked at the specs. It is a very good deal with great features. When the word gets out and if HP does get some more cool looking designs this will be a great hit.
