Sony's Cyber-Shot Digicams Go Pastel

The anticipation of Spring (or Valentines Day) has gadget makers going pastel. As Dory wrote a few days ago, market research by NPD and the Photo Marketing Association reveal that women buy the majority of digital cameras. One company that caught our attention at CES was Kodak whose Easyshare digital cameras were on display in every color, and were complimented by beaded wrist straps, colorful skins, and fashionable leather clutches. I was really impressed by the matching color combinations that also included digital frames.

But Kodak is not the only company catering to women. Sony is rolling out four new additions to its Cyber-shot digital camera line: the DSC-W55, DSC-W35, DSC-S700 and DSC-S650 models, with the DSC-W55 model rolling out in pale pink and Caribbean blue in addition to black and silver models. All digital cameras feature a 7.2-megapixel imagers, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lenses, 3x optical zoom, large LCD screens (between 2 and 2.5), and memory can be expanded with an optional 8GB Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick Pro Duo media card. Yes, an 8GB media card! Isn't that just amazing? Who knew they could make media cards with that capacity? Expect these digital cameras in stores next month with prices between $150-$200.

Gee, I've had my Fujifilm Z3 Pink for months now...seems like Gina, Sony, and Kodak are following, not leading : )

All digital cameras should have at least a 5X optical zoom lens, preferably 10X or more. 5 megapixel is enough rather than 7 to 8. in additional there should be a 5X digital zoom lens. A 3X optical zoom lens is not enough for my purposes. My Kodak Easyshare Z740 is almost ideal for my purposes. Pastel colors are not too important. Black and silver suit most people. Also the the prices are much too high for a 3X optical zoom lens camera. Ease of handling is of prime importance. Lens caps should be included for protection.
