According to the NPD Group, the most popular sellers this past Christmas were LCD TVs, digital cameras, notebook computers, MP3 players, and plasma TVs. Due to extreme price cuts on flat screens, 32-inch LCD TVs outsold every other size and type of flat-panel TV. The average selling price for a 32-inch LCD TV this year was $796, compared to $1,354 in 2005.
There's no doubt this is going to be the year of high-definition televisons, but if you didn't get one before the holidays, your best bet is to wait until after Super Bowl Sunday. CNNMoney says industry watchers don't think this year's Super Bowl deals are going to beat those holiday bargains. Marshal Cohen, NPD's chief industry analyst, is not expecting Best Buy and Circuit City to offer price cuts on flat-screen televisions especially after both companies saw their third-quarter profits flattened. His recommendation is to wait to buy a big-screen TV until after the Super Bowl, when retailers cut prices on their old inventory to make room for the 2007 models. There will be some promotions on flat panels, they're just not going to be as good.
In other Super Bowl news, USA Today reported that next month's game will be the first Super Bowl to feature high-definition commercials. Wonderful, now we get to see K-Fed's Super Bowl ad in all its crystal-clear glory. There are also rumors that companies are taking an unusual approach by inviting college students to create Super Bowl ads.
If you can't get enough Super Bowl news, the Chicago Tribune says the National Football League will bring the game to you no matter where you are. Expect wider coverage online, over satellite radio, and cell phone services. Superbowl.com will be airing news conferences leading up to the game. Sirius will also be airing interviews and updates, and Sprint will have camera teams on location to bring video to your phone.
You won't be able to get away from Super Bowl news, thanks to the advances in technology.

Never had a TV at home in my growing years. Studied piano and vocal. Have learned sign language and art. The world is full of fun things to do besides having your eyes glued to a TV.

I have waited to buy my hdtv, the superbowl is over. Now I'm just looking for the best deal. I want a 42" LCD. From what little I've heard, that sounds like the thing for me.
