The Smelly Future of Tech

What does the future hold for us? According to a BBC report, a group of technology experts in South Korea came together to find out what consumers want in future technologies. They came to the conclusion that the time has come for the Web to deliver more than sights and sounds. It should also deliver smells in the form of 0s and 1s to a fragrance cartridge that would recreate the scent. But that's small potatoes compared to what else they think the future holds. Chronic chatters will not want to wait until 2012 when they predict a mobile phone battery will last two months between recharges. Now that would be sweet!

On the stranger than fiction note, this panel of hi-tech experts also speculates that the soldiers of 2015 will be wearing bulletproof and waterproof fatigues that will camouflage to their surroundings. And by 2018, they think micro-bots will be able to swim through a person's bloodstream to find and heal health problems they encounter. Now that's a scary possibility since researchers in Japan have already developed a mini-robot that is able to perform surgery inside the body, as well as capture images and even tissue samples of the affected area. It's been tested on animals, so it's only a matter of time before it gets tested on humans too. Not looking forward to that.

These ideas may or may not come to pass in years to come, but what would you want to see in future technologies?

I dont consider these things scary, nor bad. Actually more like huge breakthroughs in science and technology. Simply put; nano and robotics are the future, how we manage to misuse these break throughs will be the scary thing.

Nanobots swimming in your blood may give you the creeps, but they would probably extend your life by decades. Being so close to the scene, they could detect & repair problems long before your Dr. knows there is a problem (except from the nanobots reports). Getting out soldiers better camouflage & body-armor is helpful, but we'll always have enemies willing to sacrifice thousands of innocents just to see criticism of the US in the media. Armored or not, we'll continue to need well trained & well supported grunts. My PC smells like burning wire - what more could I want? :-)
