Acer, Asus. Asus, Acer. Two of the top second-tier computer manufacturers now have even more in common than their similar names. Both now sell notebook computers branded with ultra-luxe sports car logos and promising top-end performance.
Acer's Ferrari line is a highly successful and very capable series of notebooks. Now comes the Asus Lamborghini VX1. The main difference? Ferrari's feature AMD chips, while the Lambo is based on Intel. There's also cosmetics: The Ferrari is fire engine red (with a black carbon fiber lid) and the Lamborghini comes in either black or yellow. The Asus product is also quite a bit more expensive, for now at least, and is only available in Europe to start.
Would you pay, or have you paid extra for a "high performance" computing product? And what do you think about auto branding creeping into electronics? And why isn't there a Geo Prism PDA yet, anyway?

They look pretty, but how well do they perform? I foresee bumper stickers on crappy old laptops... "My other notebook is a ferarri/lamborghini."
