Much better than Dippin' Dots, here's DataDots, a new system for asset identification and help in tagging goods that you fear may be stolen.
DataDots are, well, dots, too small to see easily without squinting and impossible to read without magnification. (See photo, actual size.) Each of the microscopic items are branded with a serial number, a unique code that's laser etched onto the tiny dot's surface. You simply apply the dots to your laptop (which are mixed into a UV-based adhesive that you paint on), cell phone, or automobile, and register the unique code with the DataDots database.
If your equipment is stolen, you now have a way to identify that it's really yours. Potential thieves won't be able to peel the stickers off because they won't be able to see them. A set of 500 dots costs only $20, enough to mark five to 10 pieces of equipment.

If all you need is a UV light to see the dots, then it wouldn't be too hard to remove them, would it?
donatotwins - the datadot adhesive is visible when a black light is passed over them. The police can then read the DataDot with a 50x microscope they are supplied from DataDots. jerry_dominowski - when applying DataDots you should apply several dots to the item you are marking. Place some in easy to see places and some in more hidden areas. The point of the DataDot system is so that a thief would see them or the "protected by DataDot" sticker and move on to another persons items to steal. If you apply them to your vehicle, literally thousands of DataDots would be all over the vehicle. A thief would definitely think twice about stealing that car since police need to find only 1 DataDot for recovery. No thief would want to spend hours or days removing thousands of DataDots. The system is not full proof, but just another inexpensive way to protect your valuables. For more information, or to order, visit. www.MicroDotProtection.com
