Who doesn't love a sunset over the ocean, a mountainscape, a forest glen, or a rolling meadow? The real scene speaks to you, but photographs often don't have the oomph that you expected. Why is that? Your camera is perfectly capable of taking a picture of a bunch of trees. You just need to figure out how to use it correctly and to its maximum advantage. Our pals at Digital Photography School have all the tips you need.

Among the 11 tricks:

  • Maximize your depth of field - This means getting as much of the landscape in focus as possible by using a small aperture setting and higher ISO.
  • Use a tripod - A must for great landscape shots.
  • Think about the foreground - Sure, the mountains in the distance are cool, but what about the field of flowers leading up to them?
  • Look at the sky - What's above the landscape can also be an incredible element to the shot.
  • Capture movement - A little blur in waving branches, ocean waves, or clouds can give a photo a sense of motion that you would otherwise miss.
  • Remember the golden hours - All shots look better at dawn or dusk, when the sun is more forgiving and shadows are less harsh. These are also called the "magic hours." Try the same shot at dawn vs. one at noon and you'll see what I mean.

Five more tips await you at the link below! Now get shootin'!

I think what you MEANT to say was: "all shots look better at dawn or dusk...and the shadows are MORE DRAMATIC", as opposed to "less harsh."
