Earlier reports that we'd shortly see Vista's first beta of its first Service Pack appear to be a little overblown: The beta, if it's being released now at all, is being distributed only to Microsoft's very small, core group of loyalist beta testers and not to the general public or even the larger group of people invited to test the company's products in advance.
To make it even clearer, Microsoft says "A public version of the Beta is not being released this week, nor next, nor in July, nor anytime in the immediate future.”
Well, that's a bit of a shift. Blogger Mary Jo Foley, who broke the original news, has been earnestly backpedaling from her earlier report that implied we'd be swimming in a Vista SP1 beta by now by noting that she never mentioned the word "public." Oh well.
Bummer. I know that many users out there are waiting for this Service Pack in order to even think about installing Vista, and I don't blame them.
Microsoft would of course like you to know that you need not wait for a service pack to give its wonderful new OS a try. Says the company (per the link above): "Service packs are just one example of the work we do to constantly improve the Windows experience. We also deliver improvements to Windows via Windows Update, which is an excellent channel for providing our customers with the most significant updates as they happen... We think customers will have a great experience using Windows Vista today."

I have a pre loaded new laptop with windows vista premium and quite frankly it has never worked! this laptop has 2gb ddr2 memory a 350gb sata drive and a AMD64 and vista still dosent work! I am dumping this laptop into the trash and buying a new laptop with XP! this laptop was a total waist of money as the OS doesnt work!
Seriously, what would you complain about if you didn't have MS? I've got Vista on 2 machines, and have since the initial release - No problems.
We are primarily a Mac household, but my g/f and I both bootcamp'd our Macbooks for XP (mine) and Vista (hers). She complains about Vista endlessly and not because it's crashing or anything, but because she finds it very "combersome" compared to XP or OSX. I run XP probably less than 10% of the time and it runs just fine. She uses Vista about 40%-60% of the time b/c the school she teaches at is PC-only and has Windows-only based software. For the most part, it works fine for her, but she finds the "Are you sure?" messages each time she runs a new(er) program to be annoying, as well as the speed. I notice it to be a little faster than XP in some things (like boot) but generally is confusing when I try to find things.
To those of you who have no complaints about Vista... I'm happy for you. Really, I am. But for those of us who have experienced compatibility issues, non-working features, etc. etc., please don't be condescending and imply that we don't know what we're talking about. Vista has issues. Just like every other operating system ever released by Microsoft.

I have been using Vista since release and LOVE it! Get over your fear of change. UAC, UAC...hardly ever hear from it, and then a simple approval click is all that takes. A few program providers are dragging their feet to become Vista ready, but that is their fault not Billy Microsoft's. Vista works great now!
