MTV and HP Want You To Design a Laptop

No, you read that right. MTV and HP are conspiring to throw a contest for everyday folks who want to see their artistry come to life on the back of a laptop computer. They'll pick a winner based on the awesomeness of the entry, and plaster it on the back of a "global special edition HP notebook." In addition to seeing your art plastered across corporate America (and getting a free machine or two), the winner will also get to jet to Munich for the European Music Awards as well as dropping in to HP design shops in Tokyo and Houston. Yes sir, Houston*!

That's pretty much the gist. You can design whatever you want, but the website gently pushes you toward touchie-feelie stuff like "your take on how to make our planet or your community a better place." You know, through the lid of your laptop. Judges are comprised of various MTV executives, an HP honcho, an ad executive, and an Olympic snowboarder. Hey, I just report the news, OK? Oh, and you have to be between the ages of 16 and 24. Old people can't design notebook lids, yo.

If you aren't an artistic type, you can vote on submitted designs (though none have been entered yet) by clicking here. There's something in it for ya: A selection of random voters will win a free laptop, too.

Design submissions are due October 17, so get busy and you might be goin' to Houston! Get the full details here and be sure to let us know if you submit something so we can stuff the ballot box on your behalf.

Too bad about the age limit. They must not realize (or care)that they are limiting the possiblities by imposing such a small age range on entrants.

Bah that bites - I had some great ideas too... Oh well, I'll just make a custom laptop skin company and sell my artwork that way...

Christopher (or do you go buy Chris?), it would have been nice if you had noted the 16-24 age submission qualifications in your article.

Oh, sorry, I just noticed that you did.. I must have rapidly glossed over it in there. Nevermind.
