Netflix Survey: Want to Stream Movies on a PS3/Xbox 360?

A recent survey sent out to Netflix subscribers includes a question that's got tongues wagging: if you could stream movies and TV shows on your Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 as part of your membership, would you?

Engadget is reporting that the survey, which apparently has been circulating the past few days, specifies that gaming consoles could play streaming Netflix video with help from a $3 disc, and that the service would be included with standard membership fees. (A blog called Seanbajuice has a screenshot of the survey page in question.)

Now, keep in mind, this is only a survey—Netflix hasn't announced anything official about streaming movies over the Xbox 360 or PS3, and if the plan were to go ahead, there's no guarantee the details in the survey wouldn't change. Still, it's an intriguing idea, especially given that Neflix just announced that it's partnering with LG (and potentially other manufactures) to stream its "Watch Instantly" offerings on its TVs and other components. Such a deal would solve a major downside of the PS3—its glaring lack of a video store—and would considerably beef up the meager offerings of the Xbox Video Marketplace (which has a decent selection of TV shows, but only 300-odd movies).
