Rumors have been swirling for months now about a possible price drop for the wildly overpriced 60GB PlayStation 3—in fact, the buzz reached such a fever pitch that Sony saw fit (as Chris Null reported on Friday) to issue a denial. Now here we are Monday morning, and Sony has done an abrupt about-face, announcing that the 60GB PS3 sticker price is indeed dropping to $499 (from $599). Also: an 80GB version of the console is set for U.S. release in August.

They also stopped manufacturing the 60GB. That means when they are gone they are gone. Then it's back to paying $599 again for a PS3. Dumb move Sony!
the price cut is more of a clearance sale once the 60gigs are gone its back to the old price of 599 with the 80gig
Well there might be a price drop for the ps3 which now most people now can afford to buy....but there still no good video games to play on it! My PS3 i got since Jan. is basically collecting dust as I wait for the next gen software.
My guess is the 80GB will be cut to $499 in time for the holidays.
