Grab Amazon Unbox Flicks Directly Over TiVo

If you're an Amazon Unbox user, buying and watching videos directly over your TiVo just got easier. Amazon just announced that starting today, you'll be able to browse for and purchase movies and TV shows right from your TiVo, rather than clicking "Buy" on your PC first—a welcome development.

The new Unbox purchasing feature will work on Series2 and Series3 models, and it also comes with password protection to keep kids and/or interlopers from going on unauthorized spending sprees.

Amazon's move puts Unbox in line (in terms of the purchasing process, at least) with similar online video services as the Xbox Video Marketplace, which lets you buy movies and TV shows directly over your Xbox 360. Seems like a no-brainer, but several competing set-top boxes—I'm looking at you, Apple TV—still make you purchase videos on your PC, and then you have to either transfer or stream shows to the set-top box, a tedious extra step.
