Holding off on getting an iPhone because you can't replace the battery? Well, now you can—provided you don't mind prying open the gorgeous handset with a screwdriver.
Gizmodo has the scoop on
Brando's battery replacement kit—the first one I've seen for an iPhone. The kit looks a lot like the various do-it-yourself battery packages for iPods—inside, you'll find a replacement battery, a little screwdriver, and a green plastic thingy that looks like a mini crowbar. The idea is that you pry the iPhone's case open with the screwdriver, then work in the plastic stick to completely remove the back of the iPhone and get to the battery.
Now, I haven't had a chance to test Brando's little toolkit; what I can tell you, however, is that I dinged up my iPod pretty good using
a similar battery replacement kit, so be warned. That said, the Brando kit is just $20, compared to Apple's $86
iPhone battery replacement program (for out-of-warranty devices).
So, question for you iPhone users out there: how's your battery holding up? I had some initial problems at first, but lately my iPhone battery still has about a 50-percent charge by the end of the day (I'm charging it each night).
