Touch-Screen Samsung Yepp on Tap

Samsung has a couple of sleek-looking Yepp MP3 players teed up for September: the touch-screen, video-enabled YP-P2 and the 4GB YP-T10, a svelte competitor to the iPod Nano.

I had a chance to test-drive the touch-screen YP-P2 back in July, and the three-ounce, jet-black player (available in 8GB and 4GB versions) is pretty enticing. It comes with a three-inch, 16:9 widescreen display for your videos, along with an MP3/WMA music player, an FM radio, voice recording, and support for stereo Bluetooth headsets. Of course, the real draw here is the P2's touch screen, good for pecking menu options with your fingertips. During my brief demo, however, I kept trying to pinch (iPhone-style) the screen to shrink and enlarge the video image; sadly, it didn't work.

While it lacks the YP-P2's jumbo screen, the video-playing YP-T10 still manages to impress with its slim, sleek shell; at 0.3 inches wide and just 1.5 ounces, the T10 stacks up nicely with the 1.4-ounce (but video-less) Nano. Available with 4GB of flash memory, you can watch WMV9 and MPEG4 videos on the two-inch QVGA display. As with the P2, the T10 packs in an FM tuner, voice recording, stereo Bluetooth headset support, and MP3/WMA music playback.

Engadget says we can expect to see the YP-P2 and YP-T10 in September; no word on pricing just yet.
