They've been itsy-bitsied and teeny-weenied but seldom have they been rigged for high tech anywhere outside of a James Bond movie. Now, just in time for its 60th birthday, says CNN, comes a healthier bikini for those concerned by too much exposure to the sun. This bikini is made from UV-sensitive fabric that alerts an alarm if you're getting too much sun. The UV output is also fed to an LCD display built into the belly-belt of the bikini. The suits' battery life? Two years.
If wearing an LCD is too nerdy for you, the company also makes a model where more discreet, decorative colored beads built into the suit change shades to signal the UV rating. Both bikinis are made by the Canadian company, Solestrom, as part of its SmartSwim line. The metallic silver LCD suit sells for $190. (At that price I'll take a few extra bottle of Coppertone, unless of course you tell me that the technology can also make me look like the photo.)
