A huge story at CES this year is the drop in flat-panel TV prices. The 47-inch, $1,899 LCD HDTV from Vizio is as good an example of that as I could find. It's available now, and it has lots of nice features. It's a full 1080p set, which means it's the highest of high resolution. It has two HDMI inputs, the easiest and best-quality inputs to use for high-def sources. It includes speakers and an aesthetically pleasing frame—and did I mention it's $1,899?

As for the manufacturer, Vizio is no longer a newcomer to the flat-panel market. It is currently selling about 10 percent of all flat panels bought in the United States. The big question for consumers is picture quality: it's cheap, but is it low quality? I thought that the sets looked great. I'll have to wait until I can eyeball the Vizios next to models from other companies, but I'd be happy to have one of these LCDs in my living room, and at that price, getting one into your home may be more possible than you previously believed.

Went to COSTCO to pick up my VIZIO before the NFL Championship games had a coupon for $250 off the 47"incher. Did all my homework on this baby, and when I found out that the Vizio has the FURUTA chip in it made me feel more confident on buying this @ a low price of $1649+tax. FURUTA is a Japan company that works on the HIGH end electronic stuff.. BEST DEAL yet hook it all up when I got home and it works beautiful, watched the BEARs kick that rump in and what a game between the COLTS&PATS, glad to see it on that new VIZIO, no complaints YET but if anything happens its going right back to COSTCO. I don't know if that deal is still going on but glad to have taken advantage of it..

I got this set on Saturday at Costco with a $250 coupon. It was sitting next to a Sony 46 1080p. It was hard for me to see any difference in picture quality. I was worried that analog channels would look poor until my cable company comes out on Friday to put in the HD gear. But was I surprised. It looked better than on my old 27 inch sony flat screen tube TV. So far I am very happy with the set. DVD's look great. I do have one minor complaint, and that is the speakers. Mine do not buzz as others have said, but they sure don't sound very rich. If Vizio could improve these this would be the best 46 / 47 inch set on the market. Nobody can touch the price and this is very well built TV.

I bought my 37" Vizio almost 3 years ago, it's a 720p. Still picture quality is great, I never used all the conectors it has until last year (2008). The sound that should come out of all composite conectors is mute, only those for S-Video on the side work. HDMI is perfect, just one of the Analog HD conectors produces sound. Weird. The sound board must be messed up, but don't worry about picture quality if you run sound thru an external amp. That's what I do.

i would never buy a tv;lcd or plasma that couldn't be service by a shop locally. vizio doesn't have any authorized service centers. and that's stupid.....

I love my Vizio SV470XVT1A with one big exception. There appears to be no automatic volume control "AVC" circuit and the volume is changing with every ad or channel change I make on Dish network. My older Sony makes these changes much less noticable. Mel

Wow! You find that $1899 is cheap for a 47 inch tv? Check out the Vizio web site for a 1080P 47" 120 mhz tv for $1399!! You have to look at this side by side with another tv to tell if its good? Are you sure that you should be doing technical blogs? cidyer@yahoo.com

After I saw my brother's 42" Vizio LCD, I bought a 47" Vizio LCD HD Gallevia and it picture looks GREAT!!! The sound quality is also superb even without a home theater system hooked up to it. A few weeks ago I went to buy a 42" Vizio Gallevia but they don't make the Gallevia anymore. I ended up buying the 42" Vizio LCD FHDTV. It looks good too but not as good as the Gallevia, which Vizio should have never stopped making. The sound quality on the 42" is not as good as the 47", but for my bedroom, it will do until I get a home theater system. I HIGHLY recommend the Vizio from Sam's Club! The 47" was $899 in 2007, and now the 42" is $797 in 2009.

Whats the point of all these 30inch+ panels with pixely 1920*1080? They should all be 2560*1600(1440) at least..

I bought this tv at costco after having the 37 inch. This tv is great. There IS a difference between 1080i an the p. I thought initially it would be too big, but is great for movies and my video games. Costco also had it with an instant rebate for an even 1000US. I would recommend this tv and brand.
