Should You Work from Home? Take a Quiz

I've been working from home for many years, and, sure, there are trade-offs. But the day-in, day-out pluses remain true: No commute and the flexibility to fit my work schedule around my kids' school and activities schedules. Crazy, yes, but good.

If you've been searching for a way to see if your job is truly suited for telecommuting, along with the proof and words to convince your manager that working remotely will actually improve your productivity, Web Worker Daily points to an online tool to help the cause.

It's the Telework Exchange Online Eligibility Gizmo. Basically, it's a quiz that poses questions to help gauge whether your job responsibilities can be carried out through a mix of telework and office work.

In the end, the tool calculates a teleworking score on a scale of 0 to 100. If you tip out on the higher end of the scale, you can include it in your supporting documents when trying to make the flexibility case with your boss.

Sign up on the site and you can also check out commuting cost and telework savings calculators to see how you will help your budget and the environment by driving to and from the office less. I'd need to calculate my kid carpooling for a true picture on gas and pollutant savings by my work-at-home move.

Remember, as the Telework Exchange disclaimer says, the results are merely a guide for employees and managers to determine if telecommuting can be successful. It's a starting-off point, not a determining factor.
