I've been trying out Aiptek's GO HD high definition 720p Camcorder for a few reasons, but mostly these two: price and size.
The 4.5-inch by 2.8-inch video camera shoots in high definition and standard video in a compact package with easy-to-use controls. You can find it for between $237 and $250, and that's a price that appeals to me because I'd have no problem letting my kids pick it up anytime to make videos. It's probably one of the only HD cameras on the market that I'd be be able to say that about. It's terribly affordable.
Of course, there's got to be some kind of trade-off if most HD camcorders are closer to $700 to $1,000 in price. The picture quality is very good but not spectacularly sharp. Still, it does a fine job, and its size makes it easy to slip in a bag and take anywhere.
The 3X optical zoom camera can record 1280- by 720-pixel video at 30 frames per second. There's a 2.4-inch LCD screen, which turns on the camera when you swivel it open, and a night mode for low-light shooting. It is simple to use and a good camera for amateur filmmakers.

Kind of funny reading some of these posts...I got the A-HD hybrid for 149.00. If you do your research, you will see the limitations. It produces a marginal 720p picture, which is slightly better than a good DVD, which is far better than normal digital cameras (picture only, as it does not have the advanced features of a quality digicam). Very small, 4 hours of video time on a 8 gig card. an extra batter is 19.99 on their site. This equates to about 3 plus hours of 720p video in semi low to bright lighting. converting to DVD produced much better results than a normal digicam. But dont even expect to get the quality of a hitachi or sony 1080 camera going for 800-1500 now on the market
well I had a sharp 8mm viewcam for years, loved it, but it just got to bulky. So I got a Mustek sd card, loved the size but the image stabilization was horrible so it went back. Checked out the Aiptek and the picture quality was the same as the Mustek so I didn't even leave the store with it. Ended up getting a regular 'old fashioned' JVC Mini DV (GR D750) tape camcorder. LOVE IT! Small size, great picture, easy to use, awesome zoom, low light and image stabilization and it fits in my purse. Only draw back is battery life is about 2 hours, but I can get an extra battery. I would have like to have the latest and greatest, but decided to use that extra cash to buy myself a a few shares of stock instead. The old fashion tape camera suited my needs after all and the stock will mean more to me when I reach retirement.
Dori, will you ever post here? It is said that the cam will do its job if you allow it. 200.00 for the GO, and 99.99 for hte A-HD midsummer Dori will probably get her hands on a Aiptek pro500 the latest GO in 1080p res and 720P at 60 fps. if she was a real person we hear from her. letting us in on some future info. 300.00 is the asking price for the newest model. CES2008 there are so many competitor camcorders out there we tend to get upset with the simplist problems
