Our friends just got back from a week in Maine with hundreds of photos on their camera and the USB cord that links their camera to their PC to download them all nowhere to be found.
After traipsing around to a few big-box electronics stores unsuccessfully trying to find a replacement USB camera/PC cord for their Nikon Coolpix camera, a Radio Shack sales rep pulled out a SanDisk Mobile Card Reader/Writer—a handy $10 solution to a vexing problem. (They got a good deal too; it typically retails for $20.)
The MobileMate SD + looks like a flash drive, but on its side is a slot that fits SD, SDHC, miniSD, miniSDHC, and MMC cards. Just slip in a card, and plug the disk into the PC's USB port and you can easily transfer photos on the card to your PC.
Even if you haven't lost your USB camera cord, the small card reader is good for traveling or to have on hand just in case. It also makes it easy to share music, video, photos, and other data between phones and PCs.
The trick will be not to lose the compact and very portable card reader.

They also come in mighty handy when you buy a new computer and your camera software doesn't work with this crazy Vista operating system! My daughter uses one on her computer because she can never remember how to work the download functions on the camera when she hooks it up via cable.
