'Tween phone service providers are courting Disney Mobile's customers, whom Disney is encouraging to switch services by the end of November after announcing it is getting out of the MVNO business by the end of the year.
Last week, kajeet, a pay-as-you-go phone service aimed at kids between the ages of 8 and 14, offered Disney customers who switch their phone numbers to a kajeet phone a $50 credit. Now Firefly, which recently unveiled revamped phones they hope will appeal more to kids, is offering Disney Mobile customers a free phone and a $10 credit if they move their phone numbers to Firefly. To get the deal, parents need to sign up for six months of service and sign on before Oct. 31.
The flyPhone retails for $125, while the smaller glowPhone, an updated version of its original five-button phone, is $50. The company offers pay-as-you-go and monthly payment plans. The pay-as-you-go plans charge 15 cents a minute for calls, 10 cents for texts in and out, and 35 cents a day to use the phone. The monthly plans cost 10 cents a minute for calls, 5 cents per text, and 35 cents a day for use of the phone.
Isn't it nice to be wanted? I am waiting to test the flyPhone and learn more about Firefly's service plans, so I can't recommend one over the other just yet. But we have been happy with kajeet's service and the $70 LG 225 my daughter uses.
