Did you know it's National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week? Well, it is, which means I've found another helpful resource for parents.
Hazelden Publishing is providing a free online toolkit for parents who want to help kids deal with bullying, online and off. You'll find several tip sheets, including "What To Do Is Your Child Is Being Bullied." We may think we may know how to handle their concerns, but there's a good chance we don't.
For starters, Hazelden's experts say don't tell your child to ignore the bullying, don't encourage physical retaliation, and don't blame your child for doing something to provoke the bullying. The tips help parents to keep emotions in check and to seek the necessary help through school and other community resources to deal with it.
There are also tip sheets for parents of a child who bullies others, a child who witnesses bullying, and for parents who want to prevent and address cyberbullying.
You'll need Adobe Reader to view the tip sheets and you'll find other resources in the toolkit as well.

If anyone is interested, I just published a book about bullying/relational aggression. However, it's more of an adult read. It's titled Flying Grounded: My Spiritual Triumph Over Female Bullying. It can be found at http://www.iuniverse.com/bookstore/book_detail.asp?isbn=0-595-45839-4 or at many other online bookstores.
