Chris Null gave us a look at three portable laptop mice in his search for one that works well on a small laptop desk. I've been working with a mouse that's made for smaller hands, and it's a nice option.
Kids and some women might like Saitek's Notebook Optical Mouse. It's sleek, light, perfectly responsive, and comes in bright green, pink, orange, and yellow. My 10-year-old likes it a lot. It's illuminated and works with left and right hands. It's not wireless; if you're traveling with a laptop that may be a dealbreaker, but it's not a big deal if you're working from an office or home with your laptop and want a break from the touchpad. It lists for $20, but I've seen it on Amazon for $16.
Saitek also makes the Photo Mouse. You can cut a photo to the fit the rounded shape of the bottom half of the mouse, push a button to open up a door and pop in the photo. It's lit from behind. It's a fun office Secret Santa gift or stocking stuffer for mom or dad. For an everyday mouse, I've used better. It's not terribly ergonomic, but it gets the job done. For $20, it's a fun gift for someone on your list but probably not the mouse you'd want to use every hour of the workday.
