I suppose it had to happen. Even a phone company designed with tweens in mind and to keep monthly service costs reasonable would feel the effects of the texting craze.
Kajeet announced two new texting plans in addition to its 10-cents-per-minute and 5-cents-per-text pay-as-you go pricing. There's a $4.99 "text pak" for 200 text messages a month, in or out, or $19.99 for unlimited texting for 30 days. Under the 5-cents-per-text plan, 100 text messages would get you to $5, so if you've got a texting tween or teen, the new plans could offer savings.
The pricing is similar to major carriers' texting plans, which means if your tween or teen has caught the texting bug, there may be little difference between signing on with kajeet or adding your teen to a family plan that includes texting.
Kajeet remains a great option for young first-time cell phone users as a way to teach budgeting and responsibility. But if you know your kid will be texting often with her new cell phone, check out all carrier options before adding cell phones for your kids into the monthly cell budget.

my kid has a cell phone (Kajeet) and my old laptop :). But so far I have limited texting. I expect to see more of this soon, but I do love all the limiting features of Kajeet. Kudos to them for coming up with a few plans to save us a little money.
