Look for KidZone, TiVo's parental control system, available for download starting today. (Thanks Gizmodo.) It works only on Series 2 TiVo recorders and is activated through a free software update.
With KidZone, your TiVo's default setting will be a kid-friendly guide. You'll have to enter a four-digit code to access adult shows. Kids' lists of recordings are separate from adult lists.
One of KidZone's unique offerings is program recommendations from family groups, including Common Sense Media, Parents' Choice Foundation, and the Parents Television Council.
The KidZone Guide also provides a list of "Educational and Informational" children's programming offered by broadcasters, including "Dora the Explorer" and "Clifford the Big Red Dog." Parents will be able to record shows right from the list.
KidZone is just one way TiVo is trying to differentiate itself from the other digital video recording boxes on the market. Parents: Does it appeal to you? Do you think this option would help ensure your kids are watching shows appropriate for them? Or is that already happening in your house?

Parental control is just starting to get out of hand. I know you don't want us to have to see mature things at young age, but we can't be protected from everything. Let us make our own decisions.
