The crickets are getting louder here in the East. That can only mean the end of summer is fast approaching, and back-to-school shopping is in full gear throughout much of the nation. So if you're looking for help choosing your kids' school gear, your Yahoo! Tech advisors have been on the job scouting some suggestions.

I take a look at some back-to-school tech for younger students who need a good family desktop PC to get their homework done, some flash drives to store it on, and some educational software to get fired up for a year of learning. For older, college-bound students, Robin Raskin has the must-have gadget list for freshmen. And Christopher Null outfits the ultimate computer geek's dorm room. Plus, Gina Hughes suggests gear for the always-connected social butterfly, and good backpacks to carry all her tech...and books, too.

In the want category, here's a look at starter MP3 players for the 'Tween set, which is always looking to carry the same gear as the older kids they idolize. And Gina makes her picks for fashionable phones for teens and college kids who have some extra money to spend.

For even more suggestions and discussions, see our back-to-school blog page.

The coolest Tech for college student away at school has to be the Ojo video phone as seen on MTV's real world. Mom and Dad are only a phone call away to "SEE" their college kids...simply a must! Check it out! http://www.ojophone.com/

I agree that the Ojo video telephone which operates over broadband cable is a "must have" for college bound who want to keep in touch with friends at other colleges or with parents and siblings at home. Flat monthly fee for unlimited video calls which are profoundly realistic and more like visits than calls make owning an Ojo affordable and worth the cost which keeps coming down and should be even lower as holidays approach. Check it out at www.wgate.com/

Does it work over other broadband besides cable? I have clearwire. It would be cool to video chat with a girlfriend while I'm away at college.
