We watched Jean Shepherd's A Christmas Story recently, and it was fun to hear my kids laugh throughout one of my favorite holiday movies, a well-told story by a radio legend. Watching Ralphie listening to the radio stirred vague memories of tuning into Jean Shepherd's radio show, with my family riveted to his every word. But it also reminded me of the only time as a kid I remember being riveted to the radio instead of the TV: Christmas Eve, listening to the NORAD sightings of Santa on his marathon gift run.
NORAD's Santa tracking operation moved onto the web in 1998, and kids and parents can go to the NORAD Tracks Santa web site and track the big fella's movements in six languages. The story goes that NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) got involved in Santa's movements after its predecessor, CONAD (Continental Air Defense Command), got calls about Santa's whereabouts after Sears & Roebuck mistakenly misprinted a Santa hotline telephone number in newspaper ads in 1955. The commander who answered the first child's call gave out the requested info, and a tradition was born. When CONAD became NORAD, the bi-national air defense command for the United States and Canada in 1958, it took over the duties of tracking Santa's around-the-world flight.
Kids can check out the Santa webcams that "capture images of Santa and the Reindeer as they make their journey around the world."
My kids have also liked the Santa at Claus.com web site, where they can check if they've been naughty or nice. But they have grown suspicious in the past when some of the same phrases popped up after they put in different friends' names. (As always, this is a good teachable moment to tell young kids not to put in full names or other personal information if they send an e-mail to Santa.)

By the way M1grand let the believers live on baby!!! Merry Merry Merry Christmas. Love from us here in Sydney Australia.
Santa is real to those who have the spirit. Its just a idea that takes hold of the heart and makes children happy. Im one of those that didnt turn into a killer because my parents lied to me. I have great memerys of Christmas and always will. Things really sucki in this world but the spirit of Chrismas is and will always be for the young and old.
LOOKS LIKE TROLLS ARE STILL TRYING TO MAKE STATEMENTS. SAD THING, THEY ARE JUST AS STUPID AS THEY WERE BEFORE. DIE TROLLS, DIE.
First... faith carries us all in what we believe... This is built in us as humans. If you believe that Santa is lie... then stick out of it for yourself, dont post it here.. If you believe Santa is real.. Then dont argue with ones who do not believe... Research history if want the truth... Santa in reality is St. Nickclaus (that's why Santa Claus), he started this tradition of gift giving to prisoners and homeless before at the time of December.. But don't you know that we are celebrating the Christmas as birth of Jesus in wrong calendar year? It is said to be supposedly in time of March or April... It is even suggested in the Bible about the surroundings... And Mary and Joseph can not travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem in their time if it is December because of the cold nights. Know history, it is proclaim only as Dec. 25 by a certain Pope.. I would not discuss it more here... So research about St. Nickclaus and the real origin of Dec. 25 as Christmas... For those who said that Santa is a lie... and christmas is a lie... Research first... you will eventually know the truth... But it is not like what we have been acustomed to... It is a more different story.. But it is the truth.. Santa exists and the Christmas exists... For me, its enough I believe in the spirit of christmas and I believe that Santa is real... May it be Santa as a mystical being or just living among us as our beloved ones...
First off thanks to all those who believe in Santa. Santa Clause is pardigmn that is easily believed by people who have faith in something. Once you loose all faith you have nothing left but a realization of nothingness. Once that is realized there are no boundries believe what you want. The real meaning of Christmas is the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. You may Choose to believe or not. God gave us free will whatever you believe is your reality. I pesonally believe in the Savior God Bless all and have a good Christams
AMEN to m1_grand2. HAVE A BLESSED, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I have used the NORAD site in the past and the kids have loved it. I just wish there were more people with holiday spirit instead of mean spirited people who try to destroy a child's beliefs and dreams!
Saint Nicholas is dead! He doesn't exist anymore. Anyway Christmas is about Jesus Christ not St Nicholas, Why do we keep telling kids there's a Santa Claus? Why wait until Santa put anything in socks, Or put a plate cookies and milk beside the Chimney. It's so silly. I'm not being a kill joy, I'm just being true. Even we were kids our parents never let us believe that Santa exist
Good to see the human race has allies!!! Go humans go! I am a manic depressive myself but those weird probably trouble youths on here messing up sants is not nice. I feel sorry for them that they never had the spirit that runs threw us who believe in santa. I just hope that someday they will.
There is a Santa...If you believe...
Its not NORAD they have a problem with its life. They have a lack of tolerance and understanding. They can't do anything for anyone else by keeping their typing fingers shut for the kids out there. NORAD been watching every year - from Australia and will long after my kids grow up. Merry Christmas and thanks!
i agree with the humanitarians out here. and say 'just go drink and die on your happy pain go byebyes juice'.
Merry Christmas to all....and welcome Santa, in whatever form you want to.
Just because you don't see something doesn't mean it itsn't real . When you breathe do you see the air? I believe in Santa and I'm 28 years old so there. Now all you that don't believe keep your mouth shut. Don't ruin The holiday for the rest of us that do believe.
There r Santa! It's so miraculous! I love Christmas Day!I love Santa Claus! Merry Christmas! Lily Xu!!:)
peace, love and Merrrrrrrrrrrrry Christmas! hohoho!!
Wow..some people sure are angry and jaded. Santa is and always has been part of the holiday spirit-whether you are religious or not, young or old. Parents who tell the legend of Santa aren't lying to their kids, they are preserving a fun tradition. I don't consider my parents liars. They helped my fuel my young imagination and dreams. Santa is alive in the hearts of those people who want to believe in the magic of something special. I feel sorry for people who cannot see the differences in things and who just want to be mad at something. Get a life.
Santa does not exist the reason we are celebrating Christmas is because of Jesus Christ! Not some Fat old man in a Red suit. So kids Don't believe Santa is ever going down your chimney to put gifts under your tree. its just your parents
melcan and others here thanks for believing in the human spirit and peace and love. Boy the earth needs alot more of that no matter what religion or faith. P.S. as I said before Santa is multi-religional thats why we love him so much.

Santa is real and hopefully will come to our home this year. Stop being grinchs and you might find more than coal in your stocking.
