Traveling over the holidays and don't want to bring your laptop PC with you, though you think you may need it?
Here's an idea: GoToMyPC is offering a 30-day free trial to try out its service, which allows you to access your PC remotely from another computer. The company routinely offers the 30-day trial, but if you are traveling, lugging lots of presents, and would rather leave your computer behind, it's a good time of year to try it out if you've been wanting to give it a test run.
Of course, you'll have to leave your home PC on and connected to the Internet for it to work, and lots of people may not be comfortable doing that. In that case, lugging one more bag onto the plane may be more appealing.
Then again, there is another option: Disconnect for a few days, relax, and unwind so that you'll be rested and ready for a new year. A novel idea, no?

Why take a laptop at all, especially when you can have access to a computer/internet on the road? I am sometimes away for several weeks and my.yahoo.com has served me well as my computer on-the-go. Most critical for this homepage are the MESSAGE CENTER and BOOKMARKS modules. Email can always be forwarded to yahoo mail; and the briefcase feature can hold 30 meg or more of files [a 1 gig thumb drive ($20)can also replace or supplement this latter feature for storage and/or apps (from portableapps.com)] All of MY FAVORITES can be placed in the BOOKMARKS module. I would also suggest having writely.com in the bookmarks; it works rather well for an on-line wordprocessor. And, by the way, all of this is free!
