Tucked along the walls of CES, far from the light-drenched massive displays of the big-name electronics companies, you'll find smaller companies looking for the chance to show the world their products. That's where I found BeBe Sounds of New York, N.Y., displaying its new digital baby cam.
The Portable Video & Sound Monitor runs on batteries or with AC adapters. It comes with a camera that rotates 360 degrees, as well us backward and forward, and a 2.25-inch color LCD monitor that produces black and white images in the dark with infrared night vision. You can travel up to 450 feet with the monitor away from the camera.
BeBe Sounds went back to a 900MHz frequency from 2.4GHz with this latest model so it doesn't get interference from phones, microwaves, and other household appliances that operate at higher frequencies. It will retail for $200 when it's available in March. The company is working on a prototype for its next model with a larger, 5-inch LCD monitor.
BeBe Sounds makes other products for babies, including an Angelcare Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor that goes under a baby's mattress and alerts parents if no movement is detected for 20 seconds.
