Whoever is behind Jessica Simpson's marketing campaign is a close follower of the latest web trends. Earlier I talked about the current Web 2.0 state of the Internet, but artists also need to stay current with these new trends and fads to continue to appeal to their tech-savvy fans. Jessica Simpson's latest campaign is a good example of this.
Jessica will soon release her fifth solo album titled A Public Affair come August 29, but Yahoo! Music is already offering the ultimate: a personalized MP3 download. Somewhere in the song, the lyrics "hey baby" are replaced with your own name. You can search through both male and female names to find your name and get a personalized version of the song. That's pretty amazing and something I hadn't seen before. I mean, if you're going to download the song, it might as well be the personalized version. Imagine the look on your passenger's face if you ever play that song in the car.
Oh, and if you haven't seen the fans-only video of Jessica's Public Affair, you should, it's pretty funny and very YouTube.
Jessica also has her own MySpace profile, and what really got my attention was the launch of a mobile campaign where fans can text "JESS" to the short code 33992, which sends back a phone number users can dial to hear her new single, as well as download ringtones and get other mobile alerts.
I've seen other celebrities create their own blogs or even video podcasts (Tom Green), but it will be interesting to see how Hollywood embraces these new trends.

Jessica Simpson sucks. She is one the worst singers. Her acting in films does her no justice.
Regardless of singing ability or lack-there-of, that's pretty interesting. Vaguely creepy in my optinion, but I know of many people who would love that. Heck, Radio stations even have been doing that for a few years now, having the artist put in the title of their station rather than the generic one in the original song lyrics. As for MySpace, it's insane how many MySpace things are popping up. From Jessica Simpson, to MySpace profiles for characters in the new Clerks II.
yes yes yes maybe some people dont like her style, but she can shake that butt ...lol

That's good but how do you change the voice to someone who can actually sing? :-) Semper Fi
