Handbags are designed to hold all those girl essentials such as the oversized wallet, keys, and makeup. But with so many sharp objects rolling around in your bag, the last thing you want to do is throw your $300 iPod or designer phone in the mix. On the bright side, plenty of handbag designers are adding those extra pockets especially made to hold gadgets with delicate surfaces.

Earlier this week, I mentioned Chatt Girl Handbags because not only were they designed by a 15-year old girl, they also have a very practical pocket on the outside for easy phone access. How's that for impressive? Even a teenage girl recognizes the need for special gadget compartments.

CeliCase is another example of geek chic bags. I spotted these bags over at Gearlog, and simply loved how versatile the design was. You can clip it to your belt or purse, use it as a clutch or strap across your body. This Turkish leather bag holds a cell phone or PDA, and has plenty of space to hide credit cards, keys, and lip gloss. Perfect for a night on the town.

As a woman who has worked professionally in the technology sector for over 20 years, I do choose bags in part based upon how well they will accomodate my gadgets. I have a small Brighton bag. It has two exterior pockets which house my cell phone and pocket pc. The interior compartment keeps my digital camera safe (but I do keep the camera in a cloth slip-on case to prevent scratches). I believe that there is still room for the gigabeat to be included as well! When I travel with my 17" widesreen laptop I leave the Brighton at home and move all of the above to my Mobile Edge bag. Kudos to designers for recognizing this trend and designing attrative, feminine bags for ladies who love gadgets.

I am a huge Vera Bradley fan. Most of her handbags have more than enough pockets (usually along the inside of bag) to place PDA, cell, IPod, camera and more. On most bags there are at least on small pocket on the outside for quick access. The bags are high quality, stylish and come in prints and solids and many different sizes to meet most anyones taste. The "Metro" accomadates my large screen laptop and it is nice to have a purse and accessories that match. There a also lunch boxes and diaper bags available.
