Right now I'm as pasty as solar deprived geeks get, but all that will change this summer when I head out to Hawaii or some other exotic island to relax. If you're gadget dependent like me, you're probably thinking about ways keep your gear charged while you're on vacation. But take heed, being in the sun for too long is not good for your gadgets—or your skin. While existing products count the ways they can harness power from the sun to keep our gear fully charged—such as the solar power bikinis—it's just not smart to keep those gadgets exposed to sun rays for too long.

There are many ways out there to keep your skin from being overexposed to the sun, such as the Solestrom SmartSwim UV Meter Bikini with built in UV meter and UV meter tags. Or you can pick up a pair of UV Beads for your phone to gauge just how long you've been sun-kissed. These UV beads change from white to purple to let you know it's time to go inside. Just hang them on your phone, purse, or bikini and watch the beads change colors. For $6 you get a UV Bead cell phone strap with Swarovski crystals fit for any diva phone.
