Toshiba exhibited an HD-DVD player for in-car use at the "Automotive Engineering Exposition 2007" in Japan last week, according to Tech Digest. The player is currently being developed in collaboration with Alpine Electronics, and expected to be in production by next year. The question is, do we really need it? Most cars today have very small screens anyway, so the idea seems pointless. It may be too early to tell how successful this player will be, since we haven't even decided on a format yet.

Why not use portable DVD players to watch movies on? Or is this for the driver in case s/he get bored waiting at a stoplight? ;)
