It's been a little over a month since Creative launched the super affordable Zen Stone, a music player with a 1GB storage capacity for $40. The player is very eye catching in six funky colors (black, white, red, blue, pink and green), and at that price, it makes a great gift for teens or someone who's getting an MP3 player for the first time. The main problem I have with the Zen Stone, and iPod Shuffle is the lack of screen. I like to see my music selection. Even smaller players like the mobiBLU Cube and the Samsung YP-T7JZ have displays, some even in color. I think it was a good move on Creative's part to improve the Zen Stone by adding a few features, one of them being a screen.
The upcoming Zen Stone Plus has double the capacity (2GB), a blue OLED screen so you can see what's playing, FM tuner, and comes in the same colors as the Zen Stone. They've also added a stopwatch function and voice recording function that captures voice memos or your vocals when you feel like doing some karaoke on the go. To dress it up, they've also introduced several accessories, including a wristband, armband, and travel dock. The players will initially be available in Singapore starting today at price of $99 each. It's a cute player, but I like the $40 price point a lot better.
