Ultra mobile PCs weren't the smashing hits everyone hoped they would be, and I think the price and lack of keyboard is what held it back. No matter how portable or sleek these UMPCs are, people need to be able to type on a keyboard they're used to. I've been searching for a small computer to take on the road, and so far I like the $400 price on the ASUS PC 701.
Before that, I was in love with the Fujitsu LifeBook P1610 ever since I reviewed it last year, but I couldn't justify paying over $1,600 for a second computer. Besides, I hear the new Lifebook is way smaller and cheaper.
Say hello to Fujitsu's Lifebook U810. The palm-sized notebook (you can see just how small it really is over at Crave) weighs a scant 1.56 pounds, but packs a 5.6 inch swiveling touchscreen, an ultra slim QWERTY keyboard, biometric fingerprint reader, integrated camera, an energy efficient Ultra Low Power Intel A110 processor and 40GB hard drive. It supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Wireless WAN, and users will be able to run their choice of Windows Vista Business, Vista Home Premium, or XP Tablet PC. It'll be available on September 18 starting at $999. Can't wait!
